Negotiations underway between Spurs and Bournemouth over the signing of Dominic Solanke
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘pushing’ to find an agreement with Bournemouth for the signing of Dominic Solanke.
After opting against signing a like-for-like replacement for Harry Kane last summer, the Lilywhites were always likely to pursue a new striker this summer. Several strikers have been linked with a move to the Hotspur Way in recent weeks and months, including Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.
Now, Tottenham have seemingly taken a huge step towards achieving one of their top targets. On his official X account, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have started negotiations with Bournemouth over the acquisition of Dominic Solanke after the player gave the green light for a switch.
“Understand Tottenham are pushing to get Dominic Solanke deal done, talks underway with Bournemouth,” Romano tweeted.
“Solanke has given the green light to Spurs as negotiations are ongoing to find an agreement.
“Tottenham want Solanke, as exclusively revealed last week.”
Solanke was among the standout strikers in the Premier League last season, scoring 19 goals in 38 appearances—a ratio of one goal in two games which is quite a healthy return. In just a season under the guidance of highly-rated Andoni Iraola, the one-cap England international has developed different facets to his game such as link-u, hold-up play, movement and finishing in the box.
Such qualities make the 26-year-old such a coveted commodity in the transfer market, and Spurs want to have him in their ranks ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Solanke is nowhere near the level of Kane but he’d at least give Spurs a presence up top in attack, which Son Heung-min and Richarlison failed to provide at times this past season.
The centre-forward, who was previously on the books of Chelsea and Liverpool, has a £65million release clause written into his contract. Going by Romano’s latest revelations, there is no indication whatsoever that Spurs have agreed to trigger that hefty buyout clause to sign Solanke from the Cherries.
After developing well at the Vitality Stadium in the last couple of years, Solanke perhaps is wary that the time is ripe for him to make the step up in the Premier League. A potential move to Spurs would allow him to play at the highest level while improving his prospects for the England national team.
