Tottenham under-21 talent Jamie Donley is attracting loan interest from second and third-tier English clubs
According to the Sun reporter Tom Barclay, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jamie Donley has attracted plenty of loan interest from Championship and EFL clubs.
At just 19 years old, Jamie Donley has been impressing at Tottenham with his performances. The creative midfielder played a starring role in Spurs’ Premier League 2 title-winning campaign last season, demonstrating his ability, potential and flexibility. He bagged eight goals and 17 assists in 23 appearances for Spurs’ Under-21 side.
The teenager’s versatile nature has been one of his strong suits, as he recently showcased during the pre-season tour of South Korea by filling in for the injured Destiny Udogie at left-back. Despite being a creative midfielder by trade, Donley caught the eye with his enterprising displays from the left-back position for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Club insider John Wenham claimed that the Tottenham youngster was better than Jobe Bellingham.
Taking to his X account, Tom Barclay adds that EFL League One club Birmingham City wants to sign Donley on a dry loan for the 2024/25 season. Chris Davies, the new Birmingham City boss, worked as an assistant coach under Ange Postecoglou for Spurs last season, and he is very keen on having the talented kid in his ranks.
“Plenty of loan interest in Jamie Donley, who has shone at LB in pre-season,” Barclay tweeted.
“Told most of Championship and League One want to borrow him, with ambitious Birmingham – whose boss Chris Davies worked with him last year as Ange’s No2 – v keen. #thfc yet to decide what to do with JD.”
Donley was promoted to the senior Spurs side last season. He managed four first-team appearances during Postecoglou’s debut season in north London, thereby, earning a taste of top-level football. Overall, he majorly found himself involved with the club’s youth side.
Given the competition for places in the first team, Spurs should be ready to send Donley out on loan to gain valuable experience. The Lilywhites will have to be very careful in deciding the under-21 talent’s destination as Postecoglou and his coaching staff will be raring to ensure he gets the maximum number of minutes to develop his game.

Birmingham City and Chris Davies have shown interest in borrowing Donley but Spurs are yet to make a decision thus far. It looks like we are waiting to be convinced where our academy kid has the best opportunity to nurture his talent and build on his eye-catching form at the youth level.
It would be great for Donley to go out on loan to a Championship or League One club, get valuable experience under his belt and return to the club next year before pushing for a first-team spot in the 2025/26 campaign.
