Tottenham shift focus to Solanke
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for a marquee striker in the ongoing summer transfer window and the North Londoners are looking to fortify attempts to land Bournemouth centre-forward Dominic Solanke.
Ange Postecoglou has been prioritising a move for a new number nine this summer transfer window as the Australian gaffer looks to fill the Harry Kane void in the forward line. He has been missing a marquee outlet since he took charge at White Hart Lane last season and the former Celtic boss would be looking to ensure that he doesn’t go into another campaign without a proven goalscorer.
Postecoglou keen on Solanke’s all-round game
The Lilywhites have been subject to links with multiple strikers including Brentford ace Ivan Toney and Bournemouth striker Solanke. There were times in the summer window where Toney’s move to Spurs looked certain and just around the corner and now, Solanke has been preferred over England’s European Championship star.
Many would ponder the ‘Whys‘ behind such a change of heart from the officials at N17 and club insider Paul O’Keefe has spoken about the reasons behind Tottenham’s preference. He insists that the club are not looking for a mere poacher like Toney, they want someone whose all-round abilities can help the club in multiple aspects of the game.
Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, O’Keefe said:
“They don’t want a poacher, like what you would say is a traditional nine since they need to offer more than that. When they are weighing up Ivan Toney and other players, they are looking at Dominic [Solanke] because they have been particularly impressed by his pressing ability and other aspects of his play.”
