Take this with a grain of salt, but El Debate journalist Tomas Gonzalez-Marti issued an extensive update of where things stand between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on Alphonso Davies.
First, Gonzalez-Marti took an absolutely blowtorch to Uli Hoeneß, which was…interesting:
We knew that the Bayern Munich honorary president’s bragging was just that, bragging. It’s not an opinion, it’s a reality. Every time Uli Hoeness opens his mouth, the price of bread in Germany goes up. Three weeks ago, he threatened Alphonso Davies by saying that the offer of a renewal had ended and that either Real Madrid paid 70 million euros for the transfer or he would stay in Munich until 2025, when the player’s contract expires. From that moment on, we knew that the Bavarian club wanted to transfer Davies.
It has happened before. If Hoeness threatens, it is because he knows that he does not have the upper hand and that he is going to lose the game. It happened to them with Toni Kroos and David Alaba. What hurts them most is that all their players want to go to Real Madrid and they win European Cups there. There must be a reason. It must be because things are done much better at the Valdebebas headquarters than at Bayern. They know it and that hurts.
Gonzalez-Marti also wrote with assuranbce that Davies has his heart set on Real Madrid:
The bottom line is that Davies wants to go to Real Madrid and his desire has nothing to do with money. Bayern have offered him up to 14 million euros a year for five seasons and he has said ‘no’. If the process goes ahead, whether now or in eleven months, Alphonso will earn 12 million euros net at Real Madrid, like Bellingham and Vinicius, in a deal that will extend over six seasons.
Now, twenty days before the market closes, Bayern’s top boss has put a price tag of fifty million on him. Real Madrid’s sporting management is very clear about things and its philosophy of action. It will not increase the offer for Davies. It maintains a maximum transfer proposal of 35 million. The policy of the Madrid club is not to spend amounts greater than forty million on players who are free agents in a year, unless they are star figures like Mbappé.
Gonzalez-Marti went on to say that Real Madrid is content to wait this out and have Davies transfer for free next summer and also bash Hoeneß a little more.
True? Not true? Who knows, but the next few weeks could be interesting.
