In June, Sky Sport’s Bayern Munich expert, Florian Plettenburg, highlighted Bayern Munich’s willingness to sell six players should the right offer come in. The list comprised of Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Noussair Mazraoui and, of course, Kingsley Coman.
At the time of writing, only De Ligt and Mazraoui have been sold owing to a spectacular double swoop from Manchester United. It looks likely Kimmich will be staying put despite widespread interest. Along with Kimmich, Gnabry is set to remain at the club after Désiré Doué rejected Die Roten in favour of PSG. Leon Goretzka is also primed and ready to fight for his spot in the Bayern squad despite being aware of his potentially “limited” role for the coming season. By means of subtraction, that leaves just Kingsley Coman from the original list of six and begs the question: will he stay or will he go?
Well, according to Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), PSG, a recent thorn in Bayern’s side involving the failed pursuit of Désiré Doué, may be keen to reunite with the 28-year-old winger:
Despite Désiré Doué’s rejection, Kingsley Coman is still a hot candidate for sale. Bayern would let him go even if they don’t sign another winger. The people in charge see the squad well equipped in the position with Leroy Sané, new signing Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and also Jamal Musiala. PSG are still interested in Coman even after they sign Doué as they see the latter more of an attacking midfielder than a pure winger. A loan with an option to buy is currently the most likely outcome.
After a season or two of inconsistency, Coman and Gnabry were always subject to a potential sale. However, it now looks as if the German international is preferred over the Frenchman.
As PSG continue to build a French based team for the city of Paris to rally behind, it does seem likely that this transfer could come to fruition. Although, having just spent a large sum of money to secure the signing of Doué, PSG may be hesitant to spend more. A loan with an obligation therefore may be a feasible route for the Paris based club.
As a sidebar, it is also interesting Matthys Tel’s name wasn’t mentioned as part of the competition for the wing position. Does Vincent Kompany see Tell exclusively as a striker, or was his name simply just forgotten?
Fans of Kingsley Coman best hold their thumbs a little tighter, because with Barcelona and PSG now circling, a transfer away seems ever more likely.
