For the better part of offseason, two questions have been prevalent surrounding Bayern Munich:
- Can the Bavarians find a way to get past Bayer Leverkusen and win the Bundesliga for the 2024/25 campaign?
- Why does Bayern Munich’s brass want to get rid of Matthijs de Ligt and bring in Jonathan Tah?
Leave it to Didi Hamann to hit both topics decisively in three sentences.
“In my opinion, Leverkusen will win the league again,” Hamann said during an appearance on Sky (as captured by Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch). “I also heard that (Tah) won’t be coming to FC Bayern. Selling De Ligt and getting Tah doesn’t make much sense either.”
Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau captured more of Hamann’s thoughts on the sale of De Ligt as well.
“I would not have given him away. He was not always able to match his performances at Ajax in Turin or Munich, but for me he has been the most stable central defender at Bayern over the last six to eight months,” Hamann said. “He is someone who speaks up and makes his teammates better. I don’t see that with the other central defenders. De Ligt would have been a given for me.”
It remains to be seen what happens with both of those scenarios, but many Bayern Munich fans share Hamann’s sentiments on Tah.
