Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany does not seem overly bubbly heading into his first competitive match on Friday.
While not necessarily gruff, Kompany issued stern remarks regarding the team’s DFB-Pokal match without really providing much insight into what might be going on with the squad.
In other words, Kompany is keeping everything in-house, very similar to his predecessors, but maybe even a little more secretive.
“We are playing against Ulm, they have done a good job over the past couple of years. It’s an important game for us. I don’t think it’s our intention to go into this game without respect for the opponent. We are looking forward to it. The pressure is always on Bayern, that’s the way it is,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “What happened in recent years is not my problem. It’s about us winning tomorrow. For me, it’s just about the game against Ulm and winning the game.”
Kompany will have to make some interesting lineup decisions given the personnel who will be available — and who are ready to play a full 90 minutes in a competitive match. The boss did not want to divulge what his starting XI might look like.
“The players (who recently joined the team) are not 100% fit yet, but we’ll get there. It’s important that they stay fit because we have a lot of games in the coming months. They’re ready to play a role, but probably not for 90 minutes. I hope in the coming weeks we’ll manage to get all the players ready to play for 90 minutes,” Kompany said. “You will see tomorrow who will be there and who will not.”
