These are the days it never rains, but it pours.
After securing a Bundesliga title and keeping hold of some of its key members — like attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and head coach Xabi Alonso — Bayer Leverkusen is now reportedly under pressure from its ownership to cash in on success and sell other assets.
It seems that is a situation Bayern Munich is capitalizing on by threatening to walk out of the door — with a move for Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah now looking unlikely, and causing a brief war of words between club executives this week.
From Tz journalists Manuel Bonke and Philipp Kessler, as captured via @iMiaSanMia:
Leverkusen are being urged by the Bayer Group to sell players because their market values are higher than usual after the title. Tah is considered the number one candidate for sale, but Bayern are hesitant to make a move – that’s why Fernando Carro lost his nerves and attacked Max Eberl
The €25-30m fee was viewed with skepticism at Bayern, especially by the supervisory board, since the defender had a €18m release clause in his contract last year. The word at the club is: Why should FC Bayern dig much deeper into their pockets, even though Tah’s contract expires in 2025 – and he would then be available on a free transfer?
It currently looks like Tah’s move to Bayern is off the table. Carro will therefore have to raise funds in another way

Can Xabi Alonso and Leverkusen replicate their success if more of the squad has to be taken apart, or was last season their last dance?
Meanwhile Bayern Munich has been sitting on the fence all summer on the Jonathan Tah deal, with the German international reportedly in the “let me out!” camp. Now that the Bavarians have shipped Matthijs de Ligt off to Manchester United, why don’t they give Tah that one more chance?
