Postecoglou provides an update on Bentancur’s injury
Tottenham Hotspur shared the spoils with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium after a 1-1 draw between both sides on matchday one in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou’s men would feel the result tastes like a defeat after the amount of chances they missed throughout the match. However, their mood would have slightly been brightened by the fact that Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury is not as severe as it looked when it actually occurred.
The Uruguayan fell to the ground in the second half during a corner kick incident after suffering an impact on his head. Postecoglou has provided an encouraging update on his progress. BBC Sport quoted him as saying the following:
“He is up and communicating. It’s a head injury and we’ll leave it in the hands of the medical team but he’s conscious and communicating. Nowadays we’re always cautious in the moment.”
A head injury is indeed treated with utmost caution as there could potentially be damage to a player’s brain as well as eyesight in some cases. However, the fact that Bentancur is communicating and conscious suggests the injury may only be a minor issue.
Tottenham Hotspur will be sure to conduct further tests on the midfielder some hours after the match, which would subsequently determine the gravity of any possible injury.
Bentancur had a 98% passing accuracy and won 100% of his tackles. The 27-year-old is bound to play a big role in the Spurs team this season and those within the team will have their fingers crossed at the South American not having to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
