Despite the rapid ascension of Michael Olise to one of the most coveted young players in the world over the past few years at Crystal Palace, it has not been enough to crack the French national team. Head coach Didier Deschamps certainly has no lack of talent at his disposal in the forward line and that certainly will have been a big reason for Olise’s repeated exclusions, but they remained a little curious. Following the former Reading FC forward’s utterly outstanding displays for the U-23 side during the Olympics and his move to Bayern Munich, however, it seems that even Deschamps has had to reconsider.
Remember that international break that happens almost immediately after the season begins and completely ruins the momentum? According to Fabrice Hawkins, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Olise has a chance of getting called up to the senior team during that awkward period:
Didier Deschamps and his staff are considering calling up Michael Olise for France’s upcoming games against Italy and Belgium [in the Nations League] next month. The squad list will be announced on 29 August.
Considering that Olise is still eligible to play for England, perhaps it would be advisable for France to call him up sooner rather than later.
