The one time in recent memory that Bayern Munich is not playing in a DFL-Supercup, things go haywire.
Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart ended the contest tied at 2-2 before Die Werkself went on to win after penalty kicks. That action, though, did not stop there.
Upon winning the match, Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface did a drive-by…only with his left middle finger.
(Clutches pearls!)
Yup, that’s correct — Boniface flipped the bird to the Stuttgart bench and is now in some hot water as reported by Sky Sport:
Das Sportgericht des DFB hat Victor Boniface vom Deutschen Meister Bayer 04 Leverkusen im Einzelrichterverfahren nach Anklageerhebung durch den DFB-Kontrollausschuss wegen eines krass sportwidrigen Verhaltens in der Form eines unsportlichen Verhaltens mit einer Sperre von einem… pic.twitter.com/ursWQFUd1B

The DFB sports court has banned Victor Boniface from German champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen from one DFB Cup match in a single judge procedure after charges were brought by the DFB control committee for blatantly anti-sporting conduct in the form of unsportsmanlike conduct. He must also pay a fine of 25,000 euros. ❌
↪️ The Nigerian international showed the players of runners-up VfB Stuttgart his left middle finger as he ran past them immediately after the final whistle of the DFL Supercup match last Saturday in Leverkusen. When asked, referee Tobias Stieler stated that he had not seen this scene, which is why the control committee was able to investigate and bring charges retrospectively.
The player or his club has agreed to the ruling, which means the ruling is legally binding. ✅
Bayer Leverkusen formally announced the news here as well:
After receiving a red card in the Supercup, Martin Terrier has been banned for two domestic cup games by the DFB.
Victor Boniface has also been banned for one domestic cup game and fined €25,000.#Bayer04 has agreed to the respective judgements. pic.twitter.com/GUuEsdF9Xy

Sure, that was not very sportsmanlike and it could have potentially incited some fisticuffs on the wrong day, but that seems like a big fine for flashing a digit at a bunch of grown men. Anyway, ESPN Africa captured this glorious shot of the moment in question:

Well, he certainly was not telling VfB Stuttgart that they were number one.
