Another report from Sport Bild claims to have divined the inner workings — and conflicts — behind Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window dealings.
The topic: Bayer Leverkusen and Germany defender Jonathan Tah, who was linked with a move to Bavaria throughout the summer but does not look likely now to move before deadline day.
According to the report, Bayern was internally split on Tah due to reluctance within the supervisory board, despite the convictions of top board member for sport Max Eberl. Via @iMiaSanMia:
Jonathan Tah was a ‘Max Eberl target’ but not everyone at the club was fully convinced of the defender. There were skeptics particularly in the supervisory board. Eberl personally made the last offer (€20m + €5m), but Bayern didn’t come back again for Tah after it was rejected. Eberl still appreciates the player and could make another move for him on a free transfer next summer [@cfbayern, @MichelSchroeer]
The result has apparently left the 28-year-old defender confused about Bayern’s intentions…but if the report is to be believed, the door is not totally shut just yet.
Bayern sold another center-back in Matthijs de Ligt this summer, to Manchester United, in a move that could be seen as making space for a player such as Tah. However, they are now set to go into the season without any further additions.
