Bayern Munich’s experience in finding a new head coach after last season was a wild one.
After running through several candidates to no avail, the Bavarians landed on Vincent Kompany. The experience was one to remember for board member for sport Max Eberl.
“I have learned how interesting FC Bayern is. That is why our search for a coach was covered so strongly — and sometimes imaginatively — by the media. Everyone here, my board colleagues Jan-Christian Dreesen and Michael Diederich, our president Herbert Hainer, our supervisory board with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, as well as Christoph and I, kept calm. It was not an easy situation,” said Eberl (via @iMiaSanMia).
When finally landing on Kompany, Eberl said it did not take much to convince the former Burnley coach to jump ship.
“He didn’t need to be convinced. We found an outstanding solution in him. He was on our list from the beginning and I’m annoyed that we didn’t talk to Vincent sooner,” said Eberl (via @iMiaSanMia). “It’s about the fact that we feel a good sense of togetherness, that a coach accepts that we don’t spend €100m on a player every summer. It’s about the fact that we want to rely on young players – and the coach goes along with our path. We all at the club have an extremely good feeling about Vincent.”
