Intentional or not, Thomas Müller is always an entertainer. Müller came on as a substitute in Bayern Munich’s 3-2 victory over VFL Wolfsburg with special instructions from head coach Vincent Kompany.
Given that the timing of Müller’s substitution occurred right before Bayern took a corner, the player had to wait for the ideal moment to share Kompany’s notes with his teammates. This moment just so happened to come during the celebrations for a goal resulting from the aforementioned corner, where Müller was at the center of the action.
While Müller using the break in play to explain the new instructions to his teammates was not unusual, the location from which Müller conjured his manager’s notes certainly was. Joshua Kimmich commented on the unusual decision made by the incoming substitute, explaining that the coach had wanted to change something in addition to sharing his desire to avoid touching Müller’s notes.
While the exact contents of the notes are unknown, it seems likely that they described a shift in defensive responsibilities for Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović given that Müller, an attacking player, came on for right-back Sacha Boey.
