Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry’s status on the squad was uncertain entering the preseason, but the 29-year-old fought hard during the summer and has seemingly won over head coach Vincent Kompany.
As a result of the confidence that Kompany now has in him, Gnabry started the Bundesliga opener and the winger repaid his coach with the game-winning goal.
“It was a tough game. We fought back and managed to come back from 2-1 down. That’s always good for the morale. We conceded a few seconds into the second half and then conceded a second, which made the game difficult. In the end we rewarded ourselves and won,” Gnabry told DAZN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Gnabry’s role in a rotation with Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman, and (eventually) Leroy Sané could be in question from game-to-game. If he keeps performing like this, however, the heat might shift over to the other players on the wing depth chart.
