Here is the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the games of Bayern Munich’s U-23, U-19 and U-17 games are recapped. A special event called the U-15 Elite Cup also took place this weekend, however, in which Bayern’s U-15s competed. That will also be recapped. The highlights to each game, if provided to the public, are hyperlinked on top of the results of each game. Without further ado, here is the round up:
Bayern lineup: Ruland – Dalpiaz, Puljić, Schäfer, Ofli (59. Yildiz) – Binder (78. Richter) , Nasrawe (78. Olychenko) , Mijatović, Chávez (87. Kouam), Chemwor (59. Eckl) – Codjo-Evora (78. Wilson)
Bayern goals: 1:1 Binder (68.), 1:2 Chávez (86.)
Given Bayern were going into this game with a perfect record while Regensburg certainly were not, a rather one sided game was expected. Instead, this was a tough, grueling game in which Bayern were able to fashion few chances. In fact, the bulk of the chances went Regensburg’s way when Bayern’s buildup failed, with the Bavarians often resorting to long balls over the top or desperate balls whipped into the box that would get nowhere near the intended target.
Therefore, when Regensburg scored the first goal shortly before the hour mark, it was a deserved lead. But then Bayern woke up. Aided by a double substitution of Jason Eckl and Veis Yildiz, the tempo picked up and all of a sudden Bayern created one, two, three chances before winger Benjamin Binder’s mazy run into the box was illegally stopped. Picking himself back up, the team’s #7 slotted the penalty into the back of the net. Bayern would continue to have the better of the closing stages and never gave up, resulting in a goal that owed more to effort than quality as Bayern won the ball back and a deflected shot found its’ way past the goalkeeper. Somehow, the U-19s had secured their fifth win of five games despite an overall poor performance.
This win leaves Bayern with 15 points after 5 games, already 5 ahead of the nearest competitor. The U-19s’ next match will be in the DFB-Jugend-Vereinspokal, a very rough youth equivalent of the DFB Pokal, against Karlsruhe SC’s U-19s at 4:00AM CST.
Bayern lineup: Schmitt – Dell’Erba, Dettoni, Breitkreuz, Aznou – Fernández (90. Rüger), Denk, Jensen (10. Wagner) – Ličina (78. Scott), Irankunda, Demircan (78. Aseko)
Goals: 0:1 Irankunda (14.), 1:1 Girth (52.), 1:2 Irankunda (77.), 1:3 Wagner (84.), 1:4 Rüger (90.+4)
Still plagued with injuries, Bayern traveled to Regionalliga Bayern opponents Wurzbürger Kickers with a severely depleted squad. And that squad would immediately look even more depleted as Jonathan Asp Jensen would go down after around 5 minutes. He would try to carry on but eventually had to leave the pitch a few minutes later. Bayern later confirmed via their official website that Asp Jensen suffered a “ligament injury in his right ankle” that rule him out for “several weeks”.
Fortunately, such an ugly event did not stain the match too much. In fact, it was one to celebrate as Nestory Irankunda would score his first two Regionalliga goals for Bayern with two very impressive individual efforts before the game would be sealed towards the end.
The match leaves Bayern with 16 points after 6 games, still level on points at the top of the table with FSV Illertissen. Bayern II’s next match will be against Vilzing on August 30th at 12:00PM CST.
Bayern lineup: Kösters – Moumouni (59. Ajayi), Pavlic, Kiala, Wijks (85. Zogay) – Lambe (69. Schmid) – Mike (85. Anand), Göttlicher (69. Danioko), Karls, Egwuatu (59. Afanou) – Gashi.
Goals: 1:0 Karl (28th), 2:0 Moumouni (36th), 3:0 Mike (58th), 4:0 Mike (79th).
After scoring at least 8 goals in their first two games, such a huge victory seems almost like a letdown. The U-17s went into this match with a 17-1 goal difference and continued to show their goal scoring prowess here through superb individual talent. First forward Lennart Karl showed excellent poise to dance his way past multiple defenders and finish past the goalkeeper, then left back Rayan Moumouni added the second with the kind of incredibly satisfying shot that goes perfectly into the top corner from distance. Wisdom Mike would add a third and fourth to round out the game.
This result leaves Bayern’s U-17s on 9 points, with a +20 goal difference and already 5 points clear of the nearest challenger 1859+1 Munich. The team’s next game will be against Heidenheim’s U-17s on Saturday, August 31st at 6:00AM CST.
U-15 Elite Cup
This past weekend, the FC Bayern Campus hosted a U-15 Elite Cup. Real Sociedad San Sebastián, FC Liverpool, Galatasaray Istanbul, Olympique Lyon, FC Porto, Inter Mailand and Manchester United joined Bayern in an 8 team tournament with two groups of 4. Every game would last 50 minutes long and take place over the span of two days. The end result of the groups did not matter, as after the group games the tournament would host a standard knockout format with quarterfinals, semifinals and a final, with all 8 clubs returning. The tournament would also include placement games to make sure every team would get ranked.
Ultimately, Bayern would end up in second place. Despite a miserable start to the tournament with losses to Real Sociedad (0:1) and Galatasaray (1:2), Bayern would beat Liverpool 4-1 to end the group. From there, Bayern would win their quarterfinal match against Inter Milan 2-1 and a rematch against Real Sociedad in the semifinals led to a 5-1 win for the Bavarians. They would face off against FC Porto in the final, but after a 1-1 draw Porto triumphed via penalties. And so Bayern would finish the Bavarian hosted U-15 Elite Cup in second place, despite a terrible start.
Bayern U-15 lineup in the match against FC Porto: Podar-Stiube – Dachgruber, Pavic, Richert, Nuraj, Mujic, Turbic, Ludwig, Maspimby, Ludwig, Abade
