Moving to a new club in a new country can be a daunting task for a multitude of reasons. After living in a hotel by himself, it took Harry Kane’s family six months to move to Germany where none of them spoke the native tongue. When Darwin Nunez transferred to Liverpool, he didn’t understand Jürgen Klopp and would wait until after a team meeting to ask a teammate for a translation.
Lucky for João Palhinha, Portugal international Raphaël Guerreiro has lent a helping hand to Palhinha during his move to Bayern Munich.
In a recent interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), João Palhinha said “Rapha has been really nice to me. We have a good relationship. Of course it’s good when you have someone who speaks your language when you’re new. But most of the players speak in English, so my integration has been good. I already know most of the players, and step by step I will be integrated even more.”
Guerreiro is the ultimate professional and Palhinha has spent the last two seasons perfecting his English at Fulham. With Oktoberfest right around the corner, Palhinha can count on the rest of Bayern’s squad to teach him the most important German phrase: “Oans, zwoa, drei, g’suffa!” (One, two, three, drink!)
