According to a report by Spanish journalist Roger Torelló (via @iMiaSanMia), FC Barcelona may be looking to hijack the transfer of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich by beating the Bavarians to the punch. The rumor claims that Bayer Leverkusen would be more amenable to selling Tah to a team that’s not a direct competitor, which makes sense as long as Barca can somehow pay the asking price.
Is this report credible? Who knows? The journalist in question works for Mundo Deportivo, a Barcelona-based outlet, known for their connections to the Barca board. Whether that makes the rumors more credible or less is a matter of perspective. Regardless, this isn’t the first time that Barca have been linked with a move for Jonathan Tah this summer.
If Bayern Munich keep delaying this transfer, then it’s possible that the Catalans could make a move and land their man. Tah knows Hansi Flick from his time at the German national team, and with Barca already having deregistered Andreas Christensen from their squad due to injuries — signing the 28-year-old would make sense. That is, of course, provided they can actually afford the transfer. The Catalan club struggled to register Dani Olmo, their only signing of the summer so far, even after offloading a number of players.
With the transfer window closing in a few days, both clubs will have to move soon if they want to secure Tah for the coming season. Will he be suiting up for one of the two FCBs soon?
