There are still some folks holding out hope that Bayern Munich will just accept the alleged €35 million offer from Real Madrid and end the transfer saga of Alphonso Davies.
With just days left in the summer transfer window, that seems unlikely. Spanish outlet El Debate, offered some “insight” as to what might be going on. This tale starts with the situation last winter when Davies started to find himself on the bench:
The best attacking full-back in the world withstood this pressure. And now there are fears that he will once again experience the same pressure , as Real Madrid are offering 35 million for his transfer and will not increase the figure as he only has eleven months left on his contract at Bayern before becoming a free agent. That is the philosophy of the club and Davies knows it.
The Bavarians are asking for 50 million euros. The agreement has been impossible until now. They have publicly threatened to keep the player in the Bundesliga for another year. And Davies hopes that the Germans will get off their high horse in the last week of the summer transfer window, which ends in August.
Davies, who was not great in the season opener against Wolfsburg, has shown no indication that he wants to re-up with Bayern Munich — and he has also plateaued with his development for going on almost three years. That might not be a slump, it might just be what Davies is as a player.
Anyway, let’s continue on:
If Bayern are stubborn and lose the 35 million, the Canadian is willing to endure these eleven months of long hours and arrive at the Bernabéu for free . In this case, he will receive a signing bonus from Real Madrid.
Regardless of what happens with the African full-back, who has been naturalised as a Canadian, the Real Madrid sporting management is planning to renew Ferland Mendy’s contract for two more years. The French left-back’s contract also expires in eleven months and the European champions are proposing to add two more seasons to his contract and improve the economic conditions of this last year of the previous agreement.
Real Madrid don’t mind having the best defensive left-back in the world and the best attacking left-back in the world at the same time. Mendy is a wall. Nobody has beaten him in the thirteen games of the last Champions League. And Davies is a defender turned winger who can also play as a left-footed midfielder, with an antelope-like stride and a lethal shot.
What is clear is that if — and this is a massive if — there is €35 million on the table today, Bayern Munich should just take it. It seems very doubtful that the money is really on the table any longer (if it ever was at all), but on the off-chance that it is, Bayern Munich should definitely let the Canadian walk now and turn the page.

Bayern Munich is set to host SC Freiburg in its first home game of the Bundesliga season.
The Bavarians are coming off of a nerve-wracking 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, in a match that was probably a lot closer than it needed to be. Matchday 2 should present a less challenging obstacle in SC Freiburg, who is a club in transition.
As we know, though, what should happen and what will happen often do not align. Die Breisgau-Brasilianer stifled VfB Stuttgart last weekend, can it do the same to Bayern Munich?
We’ll see. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:
- Where do things stand after Matchday 1?
- What to watch for with SC Freiburg.
- A look at Bayern Munich’s injury situation.
- A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.
- A prediction on the match.
Imagine you were a club that had the chance to get Erling Haaland for £4 million and you blew it. Manchester United must regret that decision every day:
Dani Olmo scored the winning goal for FC Barcelona over Rayo Vallecano to give fans an idea of what he is going to bring to the table this season. Hansi Flick had some thoughts on his new player’s performance.
“With him, we had more control over the ball, we combined better. He was very good. He secured the ball for us and also scored a goal. He made the difference,” Flick said.
Welcome to a new BPW show, “The Bundesliga Rundown with Marcus Iredahl”—the ultimate podcast for all Bundesliga enthusiasts who live and breathe German football.

Bayern Munich loanee Bryan Zaragoza congratulated his parent club on picking up their first league win of the season:
Juventus is looking to backfill Federico Chiesa’s spot on the squad with Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho:
Juventus are awaiting a response from Man Utd regarding their offer to take Jadon Sancho on loan, with the Italian side needing part of the winger’s hefty wage packet covered by his parent club for a deal to go through.
Per journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Sancho would like to move to Turin:

That was almost a disaster. Vincent Kompany must have breathed a sigh of relief when Bayern Munich just barely managed to scrape a 3-2 win against VfL Wolfsburg on his Bundesliga debut. Still, the performance raises several uncomfortable questions about the coach, the squad, and especially the board.
In this episode, INNN and Samrin discuss the following:
- Our first impressions of Vincent Kompany’s Bundesliga debut.
- An analysis of the lineup — where was Thomas Müller? Why Alphonso Davies? Why not Eric Dier? So many questionable choices.
- How is the performance principle being applied? Why did Vincent Kompany ignore certain players?
- How Kompany managed the game (including subs).
- Looking at each and every single player individually and what they brought to the table.
- Why did Harry Kane look better in the second half?
- Jamal Musiala remains misused.
- Joshua Kimmich’s enigmatic midfield performance.
- The disasterclass by Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae — why does it keep happening?
- Selling Matthijs de Ligt was clearly a mistake. What do we do now?
- Compare and contrast to Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona.
- Did Bayern make a mistake by rejecting Flick? Would Flick have done a better job by now?
- Where does Kompany go from here? What happens to Eberl and co. if he fails?
- Ending the podcast on a somewhat optimistic note.
