Former Premier League player John Paintsil is in a stable condition after being involved in a car crash.
The former West Ham and Fulham defender was with two other members of Ghana’s coaching staff when the incident occurred.
Paintsil is currently working as assistant coach for Ghana’s national team and was travelling back from a scouting mission.
Alongside head coach Otto Addo and goalkeeping coach Fatawu Dauda, Paintsil was heading back from the Ghanaian town of Tarkwa when their vehicle collided with a pick-up truck.
Thankfully, Paintsil’s condition is stable despite the incident.
A Ghana Football Association statement said: “The team had been on an official assignment, observing the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.
“The vehicle carrying head coach Otto Addo, assistant coach John Paintsil, and goalkeeper trainer Fatawu Dauda, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, avoided a head-on collision with a pick-up truck which veered off into its lane with some damage to the vehicle.
“We are happy to report that all three members of the technical team are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments, as a precautionary measure, upon their return to Accra.”
The Ghana FA also added that they were confident that all three coaches would make a swift recovery.
In fact, the organisation stated that it hopes the trio will be ‘in good shape and ready to lead’ Ghana in this week’s AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger this month.
Paintsil first made his Premier League bow when he joined West Ham in the summer of 2006 following the World Cup, which saw Ghana reach the last 16 on their first ever appearance in the tournament.
In his time with the Hammers he made 19 Premier League appearances before joining Fulham in a double deal alongside Bobby Zamora.
At Craven Cottage Paintsil made 75 league appearances between 2008 and 2011.
He then joined Leicester City in the summer of 2011 after being signed by Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The defender made seven appearances before leaving English football the following year.
Paintsil is a legend of Ghanaian football, having won 83 caps for his country, featuring at the 2010 World Cup which saw the Black Stars narrowly miss out on a place in the semi-finals.
