Aston Villa player Amadou Onana has poked fun at his now-famous quote that made him go viral in the summer.
The midfielder shared a series of pictures on Instagram of him wearing a vest with a viral quote on the front.
The quote said: “Andre is not even my name mate!”
Of course Onana’s vest is in reference to a famous interview in a huddle of journalists that took place over the summer.
The 23-year-old, who played for Everton at the time, was away at Euro 2024 with Belgium and had just featured in their 1-0 defeat to Slovakia in their first game of the tournament.
After the match, Onana was in the media mixed zone and conducted an interview with one journalist which went smoothly.
Once that interview had wrapped up, another journalist quickly tried to grab him for a chat of his own.
But instead of calling him ‘Amadou’, the journalist called him ‘Andre’ – a name that doesn’t belong to him.
Of course Andre Onana is a famous name, with the Cameroon international one of the most famous goalkeepers on the planet as he plays for Manchester United.
Clearly annoyed by the error, the midfielder said: “Andre is not even my name mate, do you know what I mean?”
Such was his level of irritation, Onana ignored the journalist in question and instead started speaking to a different reporter.
Onana was part of the Belgium side who made it to the last 16 of Euro 2024, but his busy summer didn’t end there.
The 23-year-old then completed a £50million move from Everton to Aston Villa where he’ll be playing Champions League football this term.
His start to life at Villa Park couldn’t have gone better, scoring two goals in three games for Unai Emery’s side.
Villa are currently seventh in the Premier League after winning two of their three games so far.
Next up is a home clash against Onana’s old club, Everton, on Saturday, September 14.
