CaughtOffside recently reported that Arsenal defender William Saliba has caught the attention of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich. But could another Gunners defender also be on their radar?
According to TBR Football, PSG is particularly interested in Arsenal’s central defensive duo, Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães. The report notes that PSG had a representative in the stands during the North London Derby, which Arsenal won at Spurs’ ground last Sunday.
However, Jamie Carragher believes that if Saliba and Magalhães stay together, they could cement their place in Premier League history as one of the all-time great center-back duos.
“Provided they stay together, we will eventually reference Saliba and Gabriel in the same breath as the two stand-out partnerships of my generation; Chelsea’s John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, and Manchester United ’s Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.
“Arsenal must win the Premier League or Champions League for the duo to establish themselves in that hall of fame, but they are making giant strides and are the biggest reason why Mikel Arteta ’s side can travel to Manchester City with confidence this weekend.”
It seems the French club is aiming to make one of these two players a key part of their defense. Both bring Ligue 1 experience, with Saliba playing for Saint-Étienne and Olympique de Marseille, while Magalhães spent time at LOSC Lille.
Could both players decide to stay long-term with the Gunners, or could the lure of playing in Paris be too much to pass up?
