It was under Luis Enrique that Barcelona pulled off La Remontada, one of the UEFA Champions League’s greatest-ever comebacks, against PSG.
Last season, thus, brought a queer situation when the Catalans were drawn up against Les Parisiens once more in the same competition. And Enrique, this time was the manager in charge at Parc des Princes.
Despite earning a favourable result in the first leg and making a fine start to the reverse fixture, an untimely red card for Ronald Araujo changed everything and PSG pulled off a comeback to eliminate Barcelona from the competition.
Luis Enrique talks on facing Barcelona
Speaking to the media in a recent interview, Barcelona legend and current PSG coach Luis Enrique recalled how it was to take on the Blaugrana in last season’s UEFA Champions League.
“Facing Barcelona was a terrible experience. I feel sorry, but all the feelings are mixed,” he began on a bittersweet note.
“Coming home was a joy, but facing the club that gave me so much as a player and as a coach was a very difficult experience for me, my children and my wife. I hope I don’t have to play against them again this season,” he added, paying respect to his former club.
Finally, he admitted that it would be very hard for him to play a final against Barcelona at any point in his managerial career.
“I can’t imagine playing a final against Barcelona, it would be a disaster. I hope it doesn’t happen,” Enrique stated.
Enrique took over the reins at Barcelona in 2014 and led the team to a historic treble in his debut season. The 54-year-old tactician left the club in 2017 and has since managed the Spanish national team before joining PSG last year.
