Levi Colwill has been one of the stars of the season so far following Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Chelsea, and the defender gives a huge amount of credit to the new coach for his good form.
Both in terms of confidence and psychology, as well as the tactical setup, Colwill credits Maresca for how well he’s playing. In an interview on the Chelsea website today, Colwill explained all:
“It’s been a very good season and I feel like the boys are connecting a lot more with each other,’ Colwill began, looking back on an impressive couple of months for his team.
“Personally, this year I feel much more confident. I know I can show my passing range a lot more. If the manager trusts you then it gives us the platform to go and play your best football. I think that’s what he has done with all our players.”
Madueke gives his thoughts on emerging Colwill-Fofana duo
Noni Madueke, another star of the new season and Colwill’s friend, chimed in to add his own praise for the defender’s progress:
“He’s done very well playing centre-back. It’s a great position for him, even though he is very good at left-back as well. He’s been leading the team as much as possible. It’s fun when you’re playing with your friends,” Madueke explained.
The winger also had some really interesting thoughts on the partnership between Colwill and Wesley Fofana at the back:
“Wes and Levi are polar opposites, but they really complement each other. Wes carries the ball and Levi passes it. Wes is front and Levi is a sweeper, but if there are games when if we all need to be on the front foot then Levi can do that. He’s the control and Wes is the aggressor.”
That dynamic is certainly starting to emerge, and we can expect both players and their combined partnership to improve more and more as time passes.
