Pedro Porro has seen his stock rise ever since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou last year after a trying start to life in North London.
The Spaniard is now being linked with moves away from Spurs. Real Madrid are particularly keen on him if their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold fails, while Man City are also reported to be interested in re-signing him.
However, Los Blancos seem to have added another name to their right-back wishlist, which could cool off their pursuit of Porro.
Another right-back emerges on Real Madrid radar after Pedro Porro and Trent Alexander-Arnold
As reported by Marca, Real Madrid are considering Bayer Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong as a potential long-term option for the right side of their defence.
Los Blancos are expected to dip into the January transfer market to reinforce themselves in the absence of Dani Carvajal, who is set to sit the remainder of the season out at the very least and will need replacement in due time; he’s 32.
Real Madrid consider Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold their first choice. The emergence of Frimpong on their radar might cool off their interest in Porro, for whom Spurs are expected to demand around £80 million.
Frimpong has a €4m-per-year contract at BayArena that is set to run until June 2028.
Christmas coming early?
Porro is Postecoglou’s undisputed first choice at right-back. After him, we have Djed Spence, who remains on the fringes, and the versatile Archie Gray, who has looked promising but remains an 18-year-old whose minutes need to be managed.
Spurs are already in a situation where they may need to get a right-back regardless of what happens with Porro, so once you take into account their own predicament and Daniel Levy’s famous hard-ball reputation, one can see why Real Madrid may be reluctant to deal with Tottenham at all and prefer to go for Frimpong instead, if at all their pursuit of Alexander-Arnold goes nowhere.

Frimpong’s emergence on Real Madrid’s radar is unquestionably good news for Spurs, though they cannot consider Porro fully safe for the season just yet.
