Bayern Munich had been on tear of smashing lower-tier teams in the Bundesliga, so naturally many assumed that St Pauli would be the victim.
Not so fast my friend.
The home side frustrated Bayern Munich and kept it to 1-0 before succumbing to the clock. All-in-all, it was a good performance against a juggernaut for St Pauli.
“It doesn’t always have to be spectacular. It was a difficult game for us today, but we stayed patient and didn’t make the opponent look better than they were. The opponent defended well and concentrated on defending for 90 minutes – that’s not so easy for us. Of course, you always hope that the opponent will open up a bit. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen today, but we were very confident until the end,” said Kimmich (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It was evident early on that St Pauli was going to be a handful, but the Bavarians could not find a way to consistently create good chances. The Bayern Munich attack is a work in progress in this respect, but the talent is there.
Now, it is just a matter of finding a way to work together through these congested, low blocks that the team keep facing.
