Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was not looking to make excuses after his team’s 1-0 victory over St Pauli.
However, the manager did want to acknowledge that the timing of things was always going to make this a tough contest.
“This game came at a tricky moment for us because we had a Champions League game on Wednesday. But we have a very good squad and had to change some players today. We played against a very compact team, with high energy and a very good game management. Even when we scored the first goal, they didn’t panic and stayed patient,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “They put a bit more pressure towards the end of the game. I can value this win a lot. When you look at what Leverkusen did in Bochum and what Dortmund did in Mainz, there are no easy games. And today was a tough game. It’s a very good win for us.”
Bayern Munich will now head off for a break and seek to keep everyone healthy, so that that the team can come back and look to improve its form when it regroups.
