Tottenham boss provides injury updates on Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke
Tottenham Hotspur were coming into Sunday’s game against Ipswich Town off the back of a solid 4-1 Premier League win against Aston Villa last week. Against an Ipswich Town side who were yet to win since their return to the top flight in May, Ange Postecoglou’s were overwhelming favourites on paper.
However, as it has often been with Spurs, they were not up to the mark at the weekend and lost 2-1 to Kieran McKenna’s side. It was an extremely timid display from start to finish and on no occasion, it felt like the home side deserved to get anything out of this game.
Performance levels and results have been extremely inconsistent for Tottenham this season, which is a cause for concern for Ange Postecoglou. Another worry has been on the injury front with some key stars currently on the treatment table. And on Sunday, Big Ange suffered a double injury scare.
Pape Matar Sarr was taken off in the 66th minute with a suspected injury, while Dominic Solanke seemed to pick up a knee injury yet soldiered on to complete the game. Asked for an update on the duo, Big Ange said (h/t Football London):
“I think Pape is all right. He just got a bit of a knock. Dom jarred his knee, it was pretty sore but he wanted to continue. Hopefully it is nothing serious.”
Pape Sarr has been an important player for Tottenham ever since Big Ange took charge of the club last season. The Senegal international scored a stunning goal in Spurs’ Carabao Cup fourth-round win over Manchester City the week before the last and started in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The central midfielder may have not started as many games as he’d intended this season but his impact off the bench has often been telling. A player of Sarr’s energy, work ethic and combative attitude is difficult to keep out of Big Ange’s plans. So, his injury not being serious is a big relief.

Meanwhile, Solanke completed the full game despite jarring his knee was positive. The 27-year-old will now head to international duty with England, and if he is not fully fit, interim manager Lee Carsley should not risk Solanke in the UEFA Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland.
