Former Blue Jason Cundy has admitted he’s “excited and salivating”at the thought of seeing Estevao Willian in a Chelsea shirt.
The Blues agreed a deal worth up to £51.4m with Palmeiras for the 17-year-old in the summer and he will join up with his new team-mates in 2025 when he turns 18.
There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the teenager’s arrival and Chelsea did well to secure the signing, with it reported earlier this month Bayern Munich tried to hijack the deal at the last minute.
Cundy can’t wait to see Estevao in a Chelsea shirt
Chelsea have increasingly targeted the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, and with Estevao and Kendry Paez they have signed arguably the two biggest talents in the continent.
Estevao is already a full Brazil international and recently became the first player under 18 to register 20 goal contributions in a single season in the Brazilian league.
The teenager has recently spoken of his ambition to become the most successful Brazilian player in Chelsea’s history and it certainly appears he has all the attributes to do that.
Emmanuel Petit has backed him to have a great career, whilst Cundy admitted he’s “salivating” at the thought of seeing the Brazilian in a Chelsea shirt.
“I will wait to see him in a Chelsea shirt, but I’m excited and salivating of the thoughts this boy looks and feel like,” he told talkSPORT.
“People in the know I respect their opinions, journalists who follow South American football, these guys are raving about him.”
There’s a lot of hype around Estevao but given how young he is it’s important Chelsea don’t put too much pressure on him.
It’s believed he won’t go on loan and will go straight into the first team squad and fight for his place, but the most important thing is Chelsea don’t rush his development.
It’s impossible to tell how good Estevao will become, but if Chelsea can nurture him and provide an environment for him to thrive in they could genuinely have a superstar on their hands.
