Reece James is said to be devastated after his latest injury setback and will undergo a scan on Saturday to ascertain how long his latest hamstring injury will rule him out for according to reports.
Enzo Maresca confirmed on Thursday the 24-year-old would miss the trip to Leicester after suffering another hamstring injury in training, of which the extent is currently unknown.
James subsequently posted a statement on social media on Thursday evening and the fact he used the words “another tough challenge ahead accepted” seems to suggest he could be set for another spell on the sidelines and will miss more than just the trip to the King Power Stadium.
James set to undergo scan on injured hamstring
For James it’s another bitter blow having only just returned to action following a previous hamstring injury, and it appeared he may have started to turn a corner after completing back to back 90 minutes against Newcastle and Manchester United.
Chelsea have been so careful with James and have managed his minutes following his return and yet that hasn’t seemed to prevent yet another setback for the England international.
It’s unclear right now whether it’s the same hamstring he had surgery on or the other one, but the academy graduate must be feeling absolutely devastated after picking up yet another injury.
The Telegraph have reported James is so set to undergo a scan on Saturday to determine how long he is likely to be out for, with swelling around the hamstring preventing a full scan from taking place earlier.
The report adds the results are expected some time next week and that James is said to be devastated, whilst Chelsea are doing all they can to rally round him and support him in this difficult time.
In James’ absence Malo Gusto will almost certainly at right back against the Foxes, but it appears it could be a while until James is seen in a Chelsea shirt again, and personally I wouldn’t expect to see him during the festive period which is a great shame.
