West Ham United are staring at a massive financial loss on striker Niclas Fullkrug, who has grown increasingly homesick in the last three months.
The German striker completed his £27m transfer from Borussia Dortmund with Bundesliga analyst Derek Rae commenting at the time that the Hammers had massively overpaid. “The Bundesliga has a two-tier system when it comes to transfers; there’s a price, and then there’s a Premier League price. I do think West Ham overpaid,” said Rae when speaking to Hammers Chat.
Since it has become common knowledge that Füllkrug is looking to leave the London Stadium, there have been no enquiries due to his ongoing injuries.
However, there is also doubt whether a German club could afford a transfer fee, even at a reduced rate, meaning West Ham may be forced to cut their losses or retain an injured player who would rather not be here.
Speaking to Claret & Hugh this week, a top club source told us that they have been assured by director of football Tim Steidten that Fullkrug is a ‘grafter’ and will work hard for the Hammers.
Unfortunately, with him remaining injured, it’s difficult for the striker to display that work ethic.
