Bayern Munich took down FC Augsburg 3-0 on Friday in a match where Die Fuggerstädter almost kept the home side’s vaunted attack at bay.
Eventually, FC Augsburg relented, but it did show the team’s personnel that it was capable of competing with the Bundesliga league leaders.
“I think we did very well for long periods of the game and didn’t give away anything at the back. Of course, we had hoped for one or two attacking moves, but unfortunately they were too few and far between. And at the start of the second half I had the feeling that we were under even more pressure. From our perspective, the two penalties were a little unlucky. Of course, I feel very sorry for the team – they really put everything in for 60 to 70 minutes,” said FC Augsburg manager Jess Thorup (via FCBayern.com).
Outside-back Marius Wolf concurred with his coach.
“We knew we had to endure a lot, and we really did. Of course, in attack it wasn’t our best game; we didn’t have many moments. But I think we tested Bayern, so that’s why it stings for it to be decided in the end by two penalties. It’s a shame and it’s annoying, but we have to keep going,” said Wolf.
For midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj said that his team gave everything that it could and was spent after the match.
“The positive thing is that we didn’t concede much against Bayern, and even when we did it was not the high-quality chances that Bayern are used to having. But what we have to criticize is our play on the ball. If you want to get something against Bayern, you have to create something when you have the ball. Today, that was extremely difficult because Bayern were incredibly strong in the counter-press – it’s exhausting. Nevertheless, we won’t leave this game feeling bad because we were able to keep it open for so long,” Rexhbecaj remarked.
