Tottenham young gun Mikey Moore missed the last two games due to illness
A glut of Injury problems have plagued Tottenham Hotspur’s campaign, leading to hugely inconsistent results.
Key performers such as Son Heung-min, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and a couple more have spent time in the treatment room at different intervals. The festive period always proves demanding for the clubs, but the Lilywhites’ depth is being stretched thin with several first-team players currently unavailable.
These setbacks have disrupted the team’s routines and stability, with limited options to work with largely affecting Ange Postecoglou’s tactical ability. Adding to the growing concerns is the situation surrounding the gifted academy talent, Mikey Moore.
Mikey Moore has broken into the Spurs first-team this season and the encouraging thing for Ange Postecoglou is that he has not let the pressures of playing on the big stage affect his natural game. The winger certainly appears at home in the senior squad, putting in some promising displays for the White Hart Lane faithful to be excited about what’s to come in the future.
The teenage prodigy had missed Spurs’ last two games against Galatasaray and Ipswich Town due to illness. Postecoglou provided a fresh update on Moore’s health while speaking ahead of the Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
When asked if Moore was severely affected by a virus he recently had contracted, the Tottenham boss said (h/t Football London):
“Yeah, he was and because he’s young as well, we just need to be careful with these things. He’s back up and about, back in the building and everything, but we’ll take our time with him.”
Now, John Wenham—the owner of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—has speculated that Moore will return to the squad against AS Roma in the Europa League next week.
“I understand he has just had a virus which has kept him out for quite some time,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Therefore, I imagine he will return in the next game after Manchester City, which would be against Roma in the Europa League. Hopefully that is what happens because we need him in the squad.
“He has been making a positive impact and we need him back.”
Despite being only 17 and only making his Premier League debut this season, Moore has become a vital player for Big Ange’s squad, featuring eight times already. And with Richarlison and Wilson Odobert facing an extended spell on the sidelines, the academy talent’s importance has grown further within the first-team squad during this hectic fixture schedule.
Big Ange will want to have the young winger back in the squad as quickly as possible, although Moore needs to be carefully managed as he is very young. The club’s medical department must not rush the England under-19 international, especially given the prodigious talent’s promise and big future lying ahead at the Hotspur Way.
