Manchester City are weighing up whether to re-sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, according to TBRFootball.
The Premier League champions sold the striker to the Tractor Boys for £20m last summer, and he has gone on to score 6 goals in his first 11 league appearances.
Delap’s form has already attracted the attention of other teams, with the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Brighton having taken an interest.
However, City do have a trump card up their sleeves if they do decide to bring the 21-year-old back to the Etihad in the New Year.
A clause means the club have an advantage in the battle for Delap
When they sold the forward to Ipswich, the Cityzens included two clauses; a sell-on clause that means they are due 20% of any future sale, and a buyback clause.
TBRFootball report that sources have told them that it will cost “in excess of £30m” to re-sign Delap but Pep Guardiola’s side are seriously contemplating paying the requisite fee.
They have been keeping close tabs on his progress since the start of the season and they have been extremely impressed with his performances.
The former City striker has also impressed pundits
After Delap scored a brace in Ipswich’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa earlier this campaign, BBC pundit Glenn Murray was effusive in his praise of the player:
“He’s had a brilliant start [to the season]. I think one of the things that’s thrown at newly-promoted clubs is a lack of goals and that worry. He’s been exceptional.”
“He’s always lively, always on the move. What I like about him is that he’s never really marked, he’s always moving and finding that yard of space.”
Considering City have no real backup for Erling Haaland, bringing Delap back to the club would make a lot of sense.
