The West Ham United players have been terrible this season, and the same can be said for Julen Lopetegui.
Julen Lopetegui replaced David Moyes in the West Ham hot-seat in the summer, but he has failed to establish himself at the London Stadium so far.
The Spaniard has failed to take us to the next level, and it has been claimed that he could be sacked if we lose to Newcastle and Arsenal.
It could be argued that we’ve actually regressed since Lopetegui replaced Moyes, and that’s saying something.
The really concerning thing is that it doesn’t seem like the Spaniard has any idea of how to improve things.
He lacks any kind of personality or charisma off the pitch, and the performances of his team are symptomatic of that on the field of play.
So can he turn things around, and get the best out of his underperforming players?
What the West Ham players really think of Julen Lopetegui
There are clearly huge problems behind the scenes at the London Stadium right now.
The Hammers have no clear footballing identity, and our key players are failing to fire.
A lack of discipline has hindered our hopes of making any kind of real progress this season, with Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez the two chief culprits.
So what do the players really think of the gaffer?
Well, Troy Deeney has shared what he’s been told by West Ham technical coach Edu Rubio about the players’ opinion of Lopetegui.
Deeney told talkSPORT (November 22nd, 12:56):
“If they’d have lost the dressing room, that’s where there would have been concern, the players are fully on board with them,” Deeney said.
“But for them, they feel like they’ve got the players on [their] side and obviously that’s why they’re going to continue to work so we’ll have to see how the future holds out.”
That will send shockwaves around the London Stadium.
The majority of the Hammers fans firmly believe that Lopetegui has lost the dressing room.
It certainly seems that way to me but according to Rubio, there is absolutely no problem in that department.
Let’s see what happens over the course of the next two games – I’m sure that if the West Ham players are really behind Julen Lopetegui, they will put in some top-class performances against Newcastle and Arsenal.
And if they don’t, we will have our answer won’t we.
