Bayern Munich go into the weekend’s clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, a clash the Bundesliga has tried to push the name “Der Klassiker” on as a marketing gimmick, in strong form. Having won all of the last 7 matches in all competitions, the Bavarian giants might seem set to invade the Signal Iduna Park and leave with all three points. Yet Bayern are not the only side with a strong record. Incredibly, despite some poor away form, Borussia Dortmund have a 100% winning record across eight games at home in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
And it seems that the confidence won from this run has upped the confidence of Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund’s managing director. In a fixture that has been privy to many bold comments- look no further than Uli Hoeness’ infamous response to Dortmund’s transfer business in 2022- this one is yet another to add to the list:
“We in the sporting management are certain that it will be a great game. We will win it,” Ricken proclaimed, via @iMiaSanMia. “And we want to win it. We will do it together.”
That is a confident statement. Now it is time for Dortmund to back this confidence up as Bayern roll into town.
