Ange Postecoglou happy with Tottenham goalie Fraser Forster amid Guglielmo Vicario absence
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario suffered an ankle injury in the team’s 4-0 win over Manchester City. Though the Italian international played through the pain for an hour at the Etihad Stadium, he was forced to undergo a surgical procedure soon afterwards and consequent to that, it is expected that he will miss the next few months of action.
Vicario’s injury means Spurs will need to act in the transfer market in January as he was their primary option but for December, they will have to be reliant on Fraser Forster, who is aged 36. The former Southampton shot-stopper conceded twice against Roma in the Europa League game on Thursday as Spurs dropped points against the Italians.
Following the match, Ange Postecoglou was asked what he thinks about the goalkeeper in general as well as his performance during the match. The Tottenham boss had the following to say (quoted by Football London).
“I don’t think he’s lacking in confidence. He is an experienced guy and has probably thought to himself that, that is why he is there, if needed to come in and be that reliable goalkeeper for us. It’s helped he’s already played this year, it wasn’t his first game. He’s played his part tonight and it’s just disappointing we weren’t able to capitalise on the football we played to get the three points. I don’t think he’s lacking in confidence, but always good for him to least pull off a couple of big saves for us tonight and get him back into he group.”
Forster has spent several years of his career playing in the Premier League, so he should be up for the challenge of the English top flight. The Europa League also should not be as big a challenge for him as many would think given that Tottenham are not expected to play any great team in what remains of the league phase.

The team does, however, require a better option which Ange Postecoglou will hope is acquired in the winter. Forster, given his age, is always at the risk of injuries while it is also debatable whether he is the right man over the longer course of fixtures for Spurs if they are to secure a top four berth come the end of the season.
