Uli Hoeneß’s recent declaration of ‘I can promise the league title’- spoken to a finance forum, for some reason- was yet another in a line of rather controversial quotes from the former Bayern Munich president. But at this point, the players and the club are used to these quotes. Manuel Neuer is his first to give his opinion on this quote: “He’s not on the pitch. But he’s said things like that in the past,” Neuer explains, via @iMiaSanMia. “We have to make sure it happens. But it’s a difficult, rocky road. And we players are not talking about that.”
Joshua Kimmich weighs in his own thoughts: “I heard it earlier. Generally speaking, we’re of course very happy that Mr. Hoeneß has big confidence in the team. We will try to get the points so that he’s happy.”
Finally, board member for sport Max Eberl takes a more measured approach to Hoeneß dream”: “I would have liked it to be certain, but it’s not certain. We have to win every game and have to get the victories so that we can then realize Uli’s wish and dream – by the way, that’s not just Uli’s dream, it’s a dream for all of us to become champions. Uli is on the supervisory board, Uli made this club great, he can now sit back and put pressure on us to be successful. That’s what we work for every day and we must do everything we can to make his wish come true.”
