Bayern Munich may have waltzed out of Gelsenkirchen with a 5-1 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, but there were moments when the game looked like it could turn out very differently for the Bavarians.
It was a nightmare start as Shakhtar’s Kevin got in behind the defense early to score the 1-0. And the Ukrainian side had their chances to go 2-1 up on the Bavarians even after the Bayern equalizer.
“I thought we defended very well overall. But we still have to grow,” Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said afterwards (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Sometimes you can be vulnerable [to counters] when you’re so dominant. We’ll continue to work in detail about these moments. But we could’ve won 5-0 and I’d still say that we have to improve.”
The mark of a good coach: never being satisfied, always working to do something better.
Maybe it is little wonder that his Bayern squad is rounding into form.
