Marcel Sabitzer has picked up another injury, hence his absence vs Wolves yesterday.
Manchester United Football Club had to grind out a 2-0 victory at home to Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday, though credit to our opponents, who made it difficult at times.
Erik ten Hag’s side wouldn’t have cared about the performance, rather it was the victory that was all-important. It moves United three points closer to playing Champions League football next season – which absolutely has to happen.
The team had to cope without Marcus Rashford. Which was to be expected. However, there was another, unexplained absence; Marcel Sabitzer.
The 29-year-old was missing due to injury, it was later confirmed by journalist Rob Dawson. The extent of the issue is not yet known, though I’d hazard a guess that it happened late on Friday, as Ten Hag didn’t mention it during his presser at all.
Sabitzer has made a positive impression since moving to Manchester in January, though this is the third time he’s picked up an injury that has led to at least one game being missed. Is the Austrian injury prone? Or is he just going through a bad spell? It’s tough to say.
One thing is for certain, Ten Hag will be taking note and no doubt this is making it tougher to decide whether to try and bring in Sabitzer permanently. As of right now, I’d imagine United will probably look elsewhere due to his age, but there’s still a chance this deal could be done.
Hopefully, the problem isn’t anything too serious and Sabitzer can return before the season ends. He’s a good option to have off the substitutes bench for the run-in.
