Man United are set to reward Lisandro Martinez with a higher wage following his brilliance this season.
Eyebrows were certainly raised when Manchester United spent pretty big to bring in Lisandro Martinez last summer, particularly after failing with a move to sign his teammate, Jurrien Timber, first.
Martinez’s first couple of games were a trial by fire. He struggled against both Brentford and Brighton. However, since then, the Argentine has not looked back.
He’s turned into arguably the best centre-half in the country. His leadership, passion and desire to win have rubbed off on the rest of the team. We’re far worse when he’s not available.
‘The Butcher’ is also a real fan favourite, with his form set to be rewarded.
It’s The Sun with the claim, who state that United are ready to hand the star a ‘hefty’ pay rise this summer, following his excellence during the course of the 2022/23 season.
Licha currently earns around £120,000-a-week here in Manchester, with united set to bump up those wages to £170,000-a-week.
The length of his deal will not be increased, with four years still remaining on Martinez’s current contract.
Ten Hag, rightly, wants Martinez’s elevated status in the squad to be recognised by moving him up in the pay cycle.
It’s just a shame that Martinez’s season was cut short by injury. it has been an absolute pleasure watching him play this season.
At the time, Ten Hag seemed fairly sure that the defender will be back in time for pre-season which is a massive positive, because he’ll be given his first full summer with United, meaning he can hit the ground running in 2023/24.
