Marcel Sabitzer will not play for Man United again this season.
Back in January, Manchester United made a move to sign Marcel Sabitzer due to an injury suffered by Christian Eriksen.
Midfield was already an area where the Red Devils were pretty thin outside of their regular starters, hence a loan move for the Austrian.
For the most part, Sabitzer has been pretty steady. His highlight came at home to Sevilla, scoring two goals in a Europa League game.
However, there’s now a very real possibility that Sabitzer will not pull on a United shirt again.
This afternoon, the club have confirmed that they’ve been dealt an injury blow, with the midfielder ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Apparently, Sabitzer has suffered a meniscal injury, which will mean he will not play again this term. This comes after the Bayern Munich loanee was absent over the weekend when United took on Wolves.
The 29-year-old has featured eighteen times for the Red Devils, playing his role in the Carabao Cup trophy win, while also filling in whenever needed. Make no mistake about it, the end to the season will be tougher without him.
In terms of what the future holds, who knows? Sabitzer will probably command a sizable transfer fee of around £20m. He has picked up a few injuries during his few months here. That has to be a cause for concern for Erik ten Hag and the club on the whole.
I guess it depends whether there are better options out there for United’s midfield woes. They need someone who doesn’t mind slotting into a variety of different roles whenever necessary. Is Sabitzer that guy? Or is a move for Adrien Rabiot more likely?
Either way, get well soon, Marcel!
