Lisandro Martinez will not be involved for Argentina this summer, as he aims to get fit in time to make his Man United return from injury during pre-season.
I’d strongly argue that Lisandro Martinez deserves to be Manchester United’s Player of the Season for 2022/23. The impact made by ‘The Butcher’ hasn’t gone unnoticed among the terraces.
His season was painfully cut short by injury, with Martinez going down with nobody around him, when Sevilla visited Old Trafford in a Europa League game. It looked bad at the time. It didn’t take the club long to confirm he’d be done for the campaign.
Immediately, Erik ten Hag remained firm in his belief that Licha would be back for the start of the 2023/24 term. Well, it seems that stance hasn’t changed.
It’s Gaston Edul with the information on Martinez. He took to Twitter to share the latest.
Apparently, Licha ‘aims to recover’ in time for pre-season on July 12th. However, he will not feature for his country in June.
Thankfully, this means Martinez will not be rushing himself back out on the field sooner than absolutely necessary. He understands that having a full pre-season is far more critical in the long term.
The centre-half became a vital cog of this United side. It’s no surprise that results have been worse without him. Not only is he our most accomplished defender, he’s also excellent with the ball at feet, always playing the right passes. Factor in his leadership ability and it’s easy to see why the side aren’t as good when he’s unavailable.
The good news? All roads seemingly point to Martinez being fit and healthy when the friendly matches start in July. That’s going to be huge for the Red Devils ahead of a massive 2023/24 season.
