Thomas Tuchel has reportedly identified two key areas to address at Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club will look to add a top-class striker to the squad, while Tuchel is also focusing on strengthening the midfield by signing a ball-playing defensive midfielder.
Bayern has already clinched the signing of Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig to improve their midfield for next season. The Austrian midfielder will arrive on a free transfer in the summer. The Bavarian club is hoping to sign another midfielder that can allow Joshua Kimmich to play in the number eight position.
Earlier this week, one report in Germany suggested that Bayern is interested in signing Edson Alvarez from Ajax. The Mexican midfielder is also strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. The latest update from Germany does suggest that Dortmund may have a clear run for the signing of Alvarez after holding talks with his representatives.
According to Sky Sports in Germany and Sport1, Bayern has decided against making a bid for Edson Alvarez. The Bavarian club will explore other midfielders in the summer to give Thomas Tuchel the ideal profile in the center of the park.
Apart from Alvarez, reports in Germany suggested this week that Tuchel and Bayern admire West Ham United’s Declan Rice. The English midfielder is expected to leave West Ham in the upcoming summer transfer window. He is expected to cost close to €100 million, which effectively rules out Bayern from the race to sign him.
Chelsea’s Matteo Kovacic has been loosely linked with a move to Bayern. Kovacic had a successful spell under Tuchel at Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder is not exactly a defensive midfielder, so it will be a big surprise if Die Roten signs him in the summer.
Hasan Salihamidzic is expected to present plans for the summer in the annual general meeting at the end of May. There will be more clarity on the top midfield target after this meeting. It will be intriguing to see if Bayern decides to make a left-field signing in this position instead of pursuing obvious names.

In terms of attack, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani has emerged as the top target for Bayern. The French striker ticks all the boxes after his prolific debut Bundesliga campaign. The negotiations with Frankfurt are yet to start, but it does look like the 24-year-old is the preferred option for Rekordmeister over other experienced strikers in Europe.
