Anthony Martial’s time at Man United may well be coming to an end.
Manchester United Football Club are not playing their best football right now. Though to their credit, they’ve won their last couple of games by toughing it out.
One point separates the Red Devils from a place in next season’s Champions League. They have two home games to get it.
Yesterday’s 1-0 victory away at Bournemouth was workmanlike. United never really got going – particularly in the final third. Anthony Martial cut a frustrated figure up top. Those emotions boiled over when substituted.
The Frenchman headed straight down the tunnel. We just assumed he was injured. That doesn’t appear to be the case. He was just mad at being taken off…
Now, according to The Mirror, the 27-year-old has been told his time at Man United ‘is over’ after storming down the tunnel yesterday.
Martial sparked a rift with the gaffer, according to the report, though Erik ten Hag did admit that he thought Martial ‘played well’ in his post-match press conference.
The former Ajax boss has always been a firm but fair manager. If it’s true that Martial stormed down the tunnel, I’d be very surprised if he starts against Chelsea on Thursday.
Again, this just highlights United’s lack of quality up front. Cristiano Ronaldo, Wout Weghorst and now Martial all have their flaws. It’s an issue that has to be addressed this summer. If United had a reliable striker, I’d genuinely have so much more faith in this team when it comes to these closely-fought games.
Martial isn’t that man. United cannot rely on him at all. If there’s a way to get him sold this summer, I genuinely believe it’d be worth it.
