Pep Guardiola has joked how his golden touch has translated to the small screen – after his cameo on the hit US TV show Ted Lasso.
The treble-chasing Manchester City boss appeared in the latest episode of the award-winning series that depicts an American football coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, moving to manage in the Premier League.
But, even though Guardiola suggested he was hired for his on-screen role to boost the show’s popularity, the real reason was more of a family affair.
‘Ted Lasso needed people like me to make the show better so they have success,’ joked the City manager.
‘But as a family, we’re big, big fans. My little daughter Valentina and my wife we enjoy watching the show, especially the first season.

‘And when they came and offered me to make a cameo, I said why not. I could meet the actors and, after a game here at the Etihad, they came and we talked again. It was nice.’
City’s arrangement with the Apple TV show saw the latest episode built around Lasso’s AFC Richmond visiting the Etihad to take on Guardiola’s City in a potential title decider.
The episode will offer City massive exposure around the world and, says Guardiola, is a sign of the huge strides the club is taking, on and off the field.
‘Of course, we are so proud, honestly,’ he said.
‘To come to make this and all around the world people know who Man City are. These are the little steps that show how the club works in the past.’
