‘Tubes… You’re a legend!’: Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan gives Soccer AM presenter Tubes a cake… as the presenter posts an emotional message on Instagram ahead of the iconic football show’s final episode on Saturday
Soccer AM presenter Tubes has posted an emotional message on his Instagram, after Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan presented him with a cake that called him a ‘legend’.
It comes as Mail Sport revealed earlier this month that the iconic football show is set to broadcast its final episode on Saturday after having been broadcast for nearly 30 years.
Tubes, whose real name is Peter Dale, was originally an assistant producer on the show, but became renowned for his short comical appearances, coming on to perform a hilarious rap before interviewing guests with his ‘one question and one question only segment’.
Having been a part of the show for many years now, Tubes took to Instagram earlier today to post an emotional message after he was presented with a cake by Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan at the club’s training ground.

The cake featured a picture of Tubes’ face, and was captioned ‘Tubes… You’re a legend!’
The Sky Sports presenter was then photographed cutting up the sweet treat at City’s training ground.
He wrote on the post: ‘Last ever Soccer AM interview done,’ before adding a ‘crying face’ emoji to the caption.
It comes as Sky Sports have been making several cut backs this year, with Mail Sport previously reporting that football reporters at the company had been told to reapply for their roles.
The announcements that Soccer AM would be ending at the close of the season were met with much distain from staff and who were reportedly ‘raging’ at the decision.
Presenters John ‘Fenners’ Fendley and Jimmy Bullard poked fun at the ongoing uncertainty on the future of the programme, in a sketch that featured an ‘elephant in the room’ amid the widespread shake-up at Sky.
The broadcaster is also set to lose legendary Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling, who is retiring after almost 30 years with the sports broadcaster.
But with Soccer AM set to finish this week, fans poured in tributes to Tubes, with one saying: ‘Going to miss you’
Another wrote: ‘End of an era’ while one user said ‘Take a bow’.

Sky are also set to add another live match to their broadcast schedule on Sunday with Aston Villa’s game against Brighton now to be shown at 4:30pm
‘Saturdays won’t be the same,’ another commented.
Earlier today, the Premier League announced a last-minute scheduling change to this weekend’s final round of fixtures, with Sky Sports now set to show Aston Villa’s game against Brighton on Sunday.
The match could see Villa gain a berth in their first European competition for a long time with Unai Emery’s side currently sitting seventh in the league.
A win this weekend would see them qualify for the Europa Conference League, with Tottenham and Brentford also able to qualify.
