The goalkeeping department at Bayern Munich could see few changes during the summer transfer window. Die Roten is expecting Manuel Neuer to be back in action by the start of pre-season training. Neuer had missed the entire Ruckrunde due to a serious leg injury he suffered during a ski trip in December.
Neuer will be the number one for Thomas Tuchel next season. As things stand, Neuer is expected to start in the DFL Supercup clash against RB Leipzig at the start of the next campaign. Meanwhile, Yann Sommer and Alexander Nubel face uncertain futures at Die Roten since they want to play regularly next season. The duo has emerged as transfer targets for the same Bundesliga club.
According to Sport Bild (via GGFN), VfB Stuttgart has Sommer and Nubel on the list of targets for the summer transfer window. Stuttgart wants to sign a new number one this summer. It remains to be seen which one of them is a priority target for Stuttgart. Sebastian Hoeness will look to use his connection with Bayern to get a suitable deal over the line.
Sommer arrived at Die Roten in January after Neuer was ruled out for the second half of the season. The Swiss goalkeeper is relaxed about his future at Die Roten. He reportedly has a transfer agreement with the Bavarian club to leave this summer if a suitable offer comes for him.
The 34-year-old is subject to interest from several clubs across Europe. He is likely to make a decision after returning for pre-season in July. Ahead of next summer’s Euros, Sommer will look to get a transfer to play consistently next season.
Meanwhile, Alexander Nubel will return to Die Roten for pre-season after spending the last two seasons on loan at Monaco. It was a productive loan spell for Nubel as he played regularly for the French club. The former Schalke goalkeeper has a contract with Die Roten until 2025, but he is not keen on staying in Bavaria if he is not playing regularly.
Bayern wanted to bring Nubel from Monaco in January. However, Nubel was not eager to leave Monaco midway through the season. Bayern is also reportedly looking to cash in for Nubel this summer. It will be intriguing to see if they are ready to send him out on loan if he signs a new deal.
