Improving the midfield department has been on the agenda for Bayern Munich this summer. The Bavarian club has already completed the signings of Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro. Both players provide cover in the midfield, which further bolsters Tuchel’s options in the center of the park.
Bayern is expected to sign one more midfielder before the end of the transfer window. They have identified the number six position as the top priority to make sure they can consistently win midfield battles in big games from next season. However, one report from England on Saturday suggested that Die Roten is looking to sign a completely different type of midfielder.
According to The Guardian, Bayern has stepped up their interest in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The Bavarian club is looking to hijack Manchester United’s move to sign the 24-year-old midfielder. Mount is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer since he has 12 months left on contract.
Manchester United had three bids rejected for Mount until now. The latest bid was rejected on Friday, which was worth £55 million (including add-ons). Chelsea wants close to £65 million for the English midfielder. The Guardian reveals that Chelsea will be open to selling Mount for a lower fee to clubs outside England. It remains to be seen if Mount is ready to leave Premier League.
Thomas Tuchel rates Mount highly after their successful spell together at Chelsea. It doesn’t surprise that Tuchel wants to sign Mount at Bayern. The English midfielder can operate in number eight and ten roles. He has a great eye for goals and assists. Mount is also very good at evading the press and works hard out of possession. These qualities have made sure Mount is rated highly by most managers he has worked with.
Despite several great qualities Mount possesses, Bayern signing him this summer makes no sense. They have several options in the number eight and ten roles. Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala, Thomas Muller, Konrad Laimer, and Ryan Gravenberch can play in these positions.
Moreover, Joshua Kimmich will also become an option in this role if a new number six arrives later this window. Mount can join Bayern only if they end up selling at least two central midfielders in the current transfer window.

From a financial point of view, Die Roten cannot afford to spend big on a position that is adequately filled in the squad. Despite Chelsea looking to lower their demands for foreign clubs, they will still look to get at least £50 million for Mount. It will be an expensive luxury signing for Die Roten that they cannot afford this summer when several areas of the squad need to be strengthened.
