Bayern Munich endured an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign. It could have been their worst season in the last decade if they hadn’t won Bundesliga in a closely fought title race with Borussia Dortmund. The quarter-finals exit from DFB Pokal and Champions League led to plenty of scrutiny on the current squad.
Apart from inconsistency on the pitch, Bayern also endured a turbulent time of it. They decided to sack Julian Nagelsmann at the end of March. The 35-year-old was given a five-year-long deal in 2021, but the Bavarian club ended his reign due to inconsistent performances in the Bundesliga over the last 12 months.
The dismissal of Nagelsmann was harsh as he had done a fairly good job with the squad in the cup competitions last season. Moreover, Die Roten was at the top of the Bundesliga at the time of his sacking. However, club officials believed that Thomas Tuchel was the right fit to move forward.
Die Roten’s performances regressed in the last couple of months as they struggled for victories and lost games from a position of strength. Jamal Musiala came up with a crucial winner in the last league game against FC Koln. While talking to Kicker last week, Musiala insisted that big improvement from him and the team needs to come next season.
“We want to win every title, that’s the ambition of the club. We have to make sure we start the preparation and the season well. I want to get better, ask the coaching staff for feedback. Generally, more goals & assists.”
“With FC Bayern, we wanted to win more titles. We had good phases with Bayern in which we showed what we can do, but also bad phases. We have to reflect on that.”
Musiala also endured a dip in his performances during the second half of the season. It can be largely due to fatigue since he also featured for Germany at World Cup 2022. He ended the season on a brilliant note by scoring the title-clinching goal, which highlights his importance to the squad.
Despite a quiet second half of the season, Jamal Musiala took a big step in his development last season. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder scored 16 goals across all competitions. He also provided 16 assists, showing his creativity in the final third. Musiala has firmly established himself as one of the members of Die Roten’s strongest starting XI.

Musiala should look to score 20-25 goals next season across all competitions. Meanwhile, Bayern is working on transfers to assemble a squad that can help Thomas Tuchel in competing across all fronts. The Bavarian club has already completed deals for Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro.
Die Roten is likely to sign two defenders, a midfielder, and a striker before the end of the window. Tuchel will also get a complete pre-season to work with the squad and instill his philosophy. Bayern needs to do well in cup competitions next season while retaining the Bundesliga title.
